How to Remove the Drawers on a Craftsman Tool Chest

The Craftsman tool chest is a durable and reliable way to keep your tools in one place. Sometimes one of your tools may find its way behind the drawer, requiring you to remove the drawer from the tool chest to retrieve the tool. Removing the drawer is not difficult considering there are no fasteners to remove. Once you remove the drawer and retrieve your tool, you can reinstall the drawer without difficulty. Most Craftsman tool chests use the same drawer glide system as most tool cabinets.

Step 1

Pull the drawer out to the fully open position. Push the drawer back ¼ inch to supply some slack into the side slide, which is on each side of the drawer.

Step 2

Locate the slot on the side of each slide. Inside each slide is the stop that secures the inner rail of the slide to the outer rail. Toward the front of the slot is a protruding lance.

Step 3

Insert a flathead screwdriver into the slot, and push the inner rail stop over to the lance. Do the same thing on the other side of the drawer. Pull the drawer out of the tool chest.

Step 4

Angle the drawer over the two chest slides, and hook one rail into a slide. Slowly lower the other side of the drawer, and use a screwdriver to pry the stop under the outer chest slide. Push the drawer back into the tool chest.
